Sheldon Stride - 26.2 For Boosters

My name is Sue (Sheldon) Quimby, and I am a 1991 graduate of Georgetown (MA) High School and a current resident of Middleton, MA. Please help me to complete my mission - run the 2009 Boston Marathon on April 20, and in doing so, raise money for the Georgetown All-Sports Boosters Club in memory of my dad.

On May 5, 2008, we lost Arthur Sheldon to lung disease. He was many things to many people, but one thing that stands out was that he was my biggest supporter (next to my mom!) in all that I did in life, especially my athletic endeavors. Many a race would find him with his video camera, recording me crossing the finish line, with all the exuburance for an average runner that only a parent has. That was until my son was born. After that, he would be so consumed with videoing his grandson, that he always forgot to get to the finish line in time to see me! But that was ok....

I chose the Georgetown All-Sports Boosters Club to honor my dad because the Boosters supported me when I played three sports at GHS (Class of 1991). The Boosters is an all-volunteer group of townspeople who help provide additional financial support for all Georgetown Middle and High School athletic teams. The Boosters do so much for the young people of Georgetown, including helping to provide trophies, jackets, championship banners, and letters at the conclusion of each season, providing scholarships to seniors pursuing further education, and providing new equipment and uniforms to teams.

My dad was a supporter of my athletic endeavors and an athlete and coach himself. He is a member of the Danvers High School Blue and White sports Hall of Fame and a one-time youth football coach there. He was an Air Force Veteran. He was a mailman in Danvers for nearly 40 years. He was also a resident of Georgetown for nearly 40 years before he passed away.

Please help me by making a donation to the Boosters. Any denomination is welcomed. Just click onto the "donate" link on the left side of this screen for donation information. WHETHER YOU DONATE OR NOT, I WELCOME EVERYONE TO SIGN MY GUEST BOOK! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO KNEW MY DAD AND COULD SAY SOMETHING ABOUT HIM. I COULD ALSO USE ANY WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT! For my part, I will be hitting the roads this winter putting in hours of running in the cold and snow. It will not be easy, but nothing in life that is worthwhile is easy! When I feel like giving up out there, I think of my dad and all the others who are physically unable to do such things. I keep repeating to my self, that the reason I do this is BECAUSE I CAN!
